This was a 6 month contract for NCR as Deployment Manager for a new automated ATM service system (project MSSS). Our primary responsibilities were as project Oracle DBA, Database designer and NCR systems manager, but we were also in charge of the implementation of the system by an internal NCR services group. This amounted to overseeing the implementation of the network infrastructure, the setting up of servers and PCs’, and testing 3rd party applications. We also helped to plan the disaster recovery centre and were able to carry out exhaustive testing to prove NCR Lifekeeper replicated all required data correctly.

The management centre consists of one NCR 35XX server running the following software components: UNIX MP-RAS SVR4 release 2.03.01, Peregrine Systems trouble ticketing product ServiceCenter 1.2, including Axces, Oracle 7.3, and NCR proprietary scripting software called MSSS-ESS, and a second mirrored server.  The server is connected to a series of PC Clients over an TCP/IP local area network.  The PC clients are running the following software components: Windows for Workgroups 3.11. FTP OnNET (enterprise network software) version 2.0, ServiceCenter client version 1.2, Inference’s CasePoint (case-based reasoning) version 2.0 and Asymetrix Toolbook version 3.0 (multimedia authoring tool).  In addition to these tools, Lifekeeper FRS is used to preserve database synchronicity between the primary and secondary servers.
